Mental Health Systems, Inc. was founded in 1978 to provide mental health and drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in an innovative and cost-effective manner. Our goal is to improve lives and instill hope by using new and creative treatment strategies while respecting time-proven methods of intervention.

Mental Health Systems, Inc. established a training and development department in 1999 with the purpose of providing the highest quality and standards of education to MHS professionals and our communities.
The William R. Mead-Training Academy operates as a service of Mental Health Systems, Inc., a California Non-Profit Corporation organized and operated pursuant to 501(c)(3) of the Federal Internal Revenue Code.
About William R. Mead Training Academy Philosophy
The William R. Mead Training Academy, an institution for education in the field on alcohol and drug studies, provides education and service that support our core values of academic excellence, student success, and client-centered treatment strategies The WRM-TAs fundamental education mission is to offer courses towards alcohol and drug certification and professional training seminars distinguished by academic excellence. The foundation for student success begins with faculty commitment to excellence in teaching, an understanding of best practices and treatment strategies, and creative and scholarly activities which support learning. We are committed to providing and intensive learning environment that is inclusive and free from discrimination.
The William R. Mead Training Academy provides education and training with the fundamental assumption that every student who enrolls at the Academy has a right to a student centered learning environment that fosters academic excellence and personal success. Students positively contribute to this environment by maintaining high standards of integrity and ethical honor in all academic work and personal conduct, familiarizing themselves with and adhering to all policies and regulations of the Academy, and promptly fulfilling all academic financial obligations.
To this end, the WRM-TA seeks qualified students of various talents and backgrounds, including geographic, educational, cultural, ethnic, and racial. Together, students cultivate critical thinking and effective treatment skills. The learning and social environment integrates discipline specific knowledge with the values of lifelong learning and experiences, ethical responsibility and civic engagement.
Students completing the WRM-TA program will be prepared to apply for the Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (CADC), CAARR (CAS), Breining Institute (RAS) and other AOD certifications.
In addition, MHS is a CAADAC, CAADE, BBS, APA, Breining Institute and CAARR Continued Education (CE) Provider. WRM-TA is ideal for anyone in the helping profession seeking additional skills needed enhance their careers or to become certified in addiction counseling.
Registration/Approval and Accreditation Information
WRM-TA is a Comprehensive CAADAC approved Program
WRM-TA's Prevention Course is approved by CAADAC
WRM-TA is currently licensed under Department of Consumer Affairs
WRM-TA is approved for CAARR - CAS 1, CAS II and the Certified Recovery Manager (CPR)
Breining Institute has approved WRM-TA for the RAS certification.
Voluntary Agreement with Department of Consumer Affairs
William R. Mead. - Training Academy (WRM-TA) Alcohol and Drug Studies is career training, not formal education, and is not affiliated with any college or university and the units and certificate earned in this program will not be transferable to any college or university in the future. In addition, the certificate you earn from WRM Training Academy will not serve as a basis for obtaining a degree at a college or university.
WRM-TA provides training in addiction counseling that meets the state Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs (DADP) requirements for certification in drug and alcohol counseling. Our program follows the Tap 21 Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes of Professional Counselors curriculum.
